Saniderm Aftercare Instructions

  • Step 1: Remove first bandage between 15-24 hours after application.

A pocket of fluid (blood, plasma, ink) is okay and normal. Its actually good for the tattoo because of the white blood cells/healing properties of the bodily secretions.

Using warm water (running under faucet or in shower) helps to loosen the adhesive. Roll the edges to start and then slowly and carefully peel.

  • Step 2: Wash your tattoo with anti-bacterial soap

(such as Redemption, Dr. Bronners, or dial foaming hand soap).

If your new tattoo is covering a large area of skin, it may be easiest to wash the tattoo in the shower. Use clean fingertips to gently clean area and remove any debris but DO NOT use anything abrasive like a washcloth, loofah, or sponge and NEVER manually pick or peel any part of your tattoo or skin.

  • Step 3: Leave the tattoo uncovered for 5-30 minutes before reapplying another Saniderm tattoo bandage to make sure it is completely dry.

You can use a paper towel to help dry but make sure it is super clean (take from unrevealed area of roll). Also be mindful of contaminants like pet hair while your tattoo is open and drying (keep it as clean as possible while open)

  • Step 4: Wash hands (you or person applying)

To apply the bandage peel off the white paper backing to reveal the adhesive side. Try not to touch the adhesive area. Place the Saniderm slowly over the tattoo, trying to avoid air bubbles and wrinkles. Then slowly remove the top layer (blue grid), by finding a corner or handles. As you slowly remove the grid layer, pat the area stuck to your tattoo to ensure it is down firmly. Double check all the edges.

  • Step 5: Remove second bandage after 3-7 days

(depending on the speed your tattoo heals and your tolerance to having something stuck on you) and wash the tattoo thoroughly with antibacterial soap. Depending on how long you left your Saniderm on, feel free to use unscented lotion for a few days after removal, and occasionally when dry throughout the life of your tattoo. You can also wash the tattoo for a few extra days with the antibacterial while in the shower, to be extra safe.

DO NOT use any petroleum based salve to cover the tattoo prior to putting on the bandage.

Saniderm’s tattoo bandage seals in the body’s natural moisture and healing enzymes, allowing the body to regenerate more efficiently and therefore can be hindered by the use of ointment.
